Tennantite/Tetrahedrite with Quartz, Chalcocite & Bornite

Here is a rare piece of what is labeled as tetrahedrite from Dzhezkasgan, Kazakhstan. Also present are chalcocite, bornite, and quartz crystals. A fine specimen, although I am fairly certain it is mislabeled. All of my research leads me to believe this specimen is actually tennantite and not tetrahedrite. While both minerals form in the same series, share a near identical appearance and are practically indistinguishable amongst collectors, I have seen absolutely no references anywhere to this location producing tetrahedrite. Either way, a rich covering of minerals with excellent crystallization from this seldom referenced locality. The side opposite to the tennantite contains some nicely formed chalcocite crystals with bornite. This location is known for producing some of the world’s finest chalcocite and bornite crystals, with tennantite also ranking high but not quite to the world class level. Tennantite is also uncommon for the location. The last picture shows an interesting tunnel going through the specimen with the inside of the tunnel partially lined with fine quartz crystals. It is an excellent and rare combination piece from two of the most noteworthy names in the mineral world: The Collector’s Edge and F. John Barlow. Comes with two fine labels from the previous collections.
